An exhibition of gothic tapestries of France and Flanders : April twenty-two to May sixteen, nineteen hundred and twenty
Exhibition catalogue issued by the Art Institute of Chicago in 1920 for a spring showing of late medieval French and Flemish tapestries, aimed at museum visitors, collectors and textile students. The halftone plates reproduce whole hangings in dense grey tone: crowded Passion and courtly scenes packed with figures in fifteenth-century dress, architectural canopies and pinnacles, and wide millefleur-style floral borders that can be lifted as frames, crowd-scene silhouettes or allover pattern fill.
