Explication des ouvrages de peinture et dessins, sculpture, architecture et gravure, des artistes vivans
Salon exhibition catalogues listing paintings, drawings, sculpture, architecture and prints by living artists, issued in Paris from 1673 onward by the Académie royale and later the Société des artistes français for visitors walking the galleries. Illustration is largely engineering-plain: engraved ground plans of exhibition halls with numbered rooms, hatched walls, colonnades and skylight grids, plus occasional wood-engraved vignettes like a studded iron-bound door, useful as diagram texture and plan ornament.
