Explorations in Bible lands during the 19th century
A survey of nineteenth-century Near Eastern archaeology compiled by Hermann Hilprecht with Benzinger, Hommel and Jensen, published in Philadelphia by A. J. Holman in 1903 for Bible students and general readers. The plates are halftones from excavation photographs dash trench walls, mudbrick ziggurat stages, Parthian temple interiors with altars, stone drains and rubble masonry dash giving grainy grey textures, strong raking light and site captions usable as period-photographic backgrounds.
