A German translation of Paolo Aresi's Italian emblem sermons in praise of the Virgin Mary, printed at Sultzbach in 1696 for the Nuremberg bookseller Johann Leonhard Buggel and aimed at Catholic preachers and devotional readers. The illustrations are small letterpress woodcut tailpieces and headbands: symmetrical swags of fruit, flowers, scrollwork and grotesque masks, useful as printers' ornaments, dividers and vignette frames.
