Facts and speculations on the origin and history of playing cards
An antiquarian history of playing cards by William Andrew Chatto, published in London by J.R. Smith in 1848 for collectors and students of print and game history. The plates copy early European cards and card-makers' marks in wood-engraved line and hand-colouring: suit signs, costumed court figures with swords and banners, circular medallion scenes, and geometric pip arrangements usable as motifs, borders and figure stock.
