Famous sculptors and sculpture.
A survey of sculptors and their works written by Julia A. Shedd and published in Boston by James R. Osgood in 1881 for American general readers and art students. The plates are halftone photographs of marble busts and figures lit from one side against black grounds, giving high-contrast silhouettes, sepia tonal gradation, and turned pedestals that cut clean shapes for collage or cover work.
