Felsina pittrice : vite de pittori bolognesi
Carlo Cesare Malvasia's Felsina pittrice, printed in Bologna in 1678 by the heir of Domenico Barbieri, collects biographies of Bolognese painters for collectors, artists and scholars. Woodcut portraits show bearded and ruffed sitters in oval laurel wreaths with knotted ribbons, alongside foliate initial letters and small ornaments useful as frames, monograms and decorative capitals.
