Festivals, games, and amusements
A popular survey of ancient and modern festivals, games and sports by Horace Smith, revised by Samuel Woodworth, issued by Harper and Brothers in New York in 1841 for general American readers. The plates combine an engraved plan of Olympia with labelled hippodrome, Altis and sacred grove, outline copies of Greek vase and frieze processions and animal hunts, and small stipple-engraved scenes of horsemen and rustic sport, offering usable line diagrams, figure friezes and period sporting vignettes.
