The fine arts
A general survey of art for students and lay readers, written by the Edinburgh professor G. Baldwin Brown and published by Scribner in New York in 1901. The plates are small outline drawings of buildings and their parts, from megalithic passage graves and rock-cut tomb facades to a Greek temple front and a Roman arcaded order, shaded with close parallel hatching; they supply clean, diagrammatic architectural elevations and details that reduce well to small sizes.
