A 1921 instructional handbook on batik, tie-dyeing and pattern dyeing by Gertrude Clayton Lewis, published by the Prang Company in Chicago and New York for craft students and teachers. Halftone plates reproduce Javanese batiks and sarongs from museum and private collections, giving dense dark-ground repeats: diagonal stripes, sawtooth bands, paisley-like forms and small floral borders usable as tiling textures.
