Five Italian shrines; an account of the monumental tombs of S. Augustine at Pavia, S. Dominic at Bologna, S. Peter Martyr at Milan, S. Donato at Arezzo, and of Orcagna's tabernacolo at Florence, with a prefatory essay on Tuscan sculpture

Waters, W. G. (William George), 1844-1928 · 1906 · London : J. Murray · 23 pictures

An 1906 London study by W. G. Waters, published by John Murray, describing five Italian monumental tombs and Orcagna's tabernacle, with an introductory essay on Tuscan sculpture, addressed to art historians and travellers. Halftone photographs record carved marble relief panels crowded with robed figures, bead-and-leaf borders, twisted colonnettes and canopied niches, useful for ornamental frames, drapery and crowd-scene compositions in high contrast grey.
