The flags of the Confederate armies. Returned to the men who bore them by the United States government
A 1905 record book issued by the United Confederate Veterans in St. Louis, cataloguing captured Confederate regimental colors as the United States government returned them to surviving bearers. Colour plates show individual battle flags painted from the surviving cloth, with torn edges, bullet holes, fraying, sagging folds, hand-cut stars and typeset caption slips naming unit, battle and date.
