Florence
A guidebook to Florence by the English writer Grant Allen, issued in Boston by L. C. Page in 1901 for English-speaking travellers studying Italian art on the ground. Its forty plates are sepia halftones of Florentine paintings, frescoes and sculpture — Botticelli's enthroned Fortitude, crowded perspectival interiors, a niche statue under a gabled canopy at Orsanmichele — useful for draped figures, Gothic architectural frames, and soft-grained monochrome reproduction texture.
