Folk dances and games
A 1908 instruction manual of folk dances and singing games by Caroline Crawford, issued in New York by A.S. Barnes & Company for schoolteachers and playground leaders. The plates reproduced here are engraved piano accompaniments cut into short two-stave strips — treble and bass clefs, 2/4 and 6/8 meters, beamed eighth-note runs, slurs, accents and dynamic marks — usable as ready-made rules, borders, or texture where notation stands in for music.
