Fors clavigera. Letters to the workmen and labourers of Great Britain
John Ruskin's Fors Clavigera, a series of open letters on work, economics and art addressed to British workmen and labourers, issued 1871-84 and reprinted by the Jefferson Press, Boston, in 1900. Wood-engraved cuts and initials sit in the text: a coiled scaled serpent, Cretan coins with square and round labyrinths, and tall flourished pen-drawn letterforms usable as monograms or rules.
