Fors clavigera. Letters to the workmen and labourers of Great Britain
John Ruskin's serial of open letters to British workmen and labourers, issued from 1871 by George Allen at Orpington, Kent, mixing political economy, art criticism and moral instruction for a general working readership. The plates run from photographs of Bernese coins with crowned shields and standing bearmen to Ruskin's own thin-line profiles of Alpine ridges and a woodcut spray of roses, giving designers heraldic medal faces, bare contour drawing, and small floral ornament.
