Fortuny

Yriarte, Charles, 1832-1898 · 1886 · Paris : J. Rouam · 18 pictures

A French monograph on the Spanish painter Mariano Fortuny, written by Charles Yriarte and published by J. Rouam in Paris in 1886 for art collectors and students. The plates reproduce his oils, watercolours and etchings as tonal wood engravings: costumed eighteenth-century figures in panelled salons, Moroccan and Spanish street scenes, and single standing women, with heavy blacks and scratchy highlights useful for textured figure vignettes.
