Four months in a sneak-box. A boat voyage of 2600 miles down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers
Nathaniel Holmes Bishop's 1879 account, published in Boston by Lee & Shepard, of rowing a duck-hunter's sneak-box 2,600 miles down the Ohio and Mississippi, written for armchair readers of American river travel. Wood engravings show small boats moored in reeds, a lone oarsman in open water, riverbank scrambles and a folding route map, with vignettes cut to irregular and circular shapes that bleed into the text block.
