A printed edition of the heraldic visitation records of Berkshire, taken by English kings of arms and heralds between 1532 and 1665-66, edited by W. Harry Rylands and issued in London in 1907 for the Harleian Society's genealogical and antiquarian readers. The 430 pictures are line facsimiles of manuscript arms: quartered shields filled with chevrons, crosses, sheaves, roundels and beasts, topped by crests of lions, boars, dragons and greyhounds on wreaths, each marked with tincture letters (G, A, S, B, O) instead of colour, giving designers a stock of simple contour drawings, heraldic charges and animal crests.
