Fra Bartolommeo : Florentine school
A 1904 Boston monograph from Bates and Guild reproducing the paintings of the Florentine Dominican painter Fra Bartolommeo (1472–1517), issued in halftone for art students, teachers and collectors. The plates are soft grey photographs of altarpieces: enthroned Madonnas on stepped plinths, flanking saints with sword, cross and book, hovering child angels holding drapery and crowns, and heavy massed cloaks; useful for drapery folds, symmetrical devotional compositions and tonal figure groups.
