A German monograph on the painter Fra Angelico by the Jesuit art historian Stephan Beissel, published by Herder in Freiburg im Breisgau in 1895 for readers of Catholic art scholarship. The 49 plates are halftone photographic reproductions of panels, frescoes and altarpiece frames, showing Gothic tabernacle carpentry, crocketed gables, twisted columns, predella rows of saints, radiating starburst haloes and crowded ranks of haloed figures.
