Francisci Ficoronii Reg. Lond. Acad. socii dissertatio de larvis scenicis et figuris comicis antiquorum Romanorum, et ex Italica in Latinam linguam versa
An antiquarian treatise on the stage masks and comic figures of the ancient Romans, written by the Roman collector Francesco Ficoroni and issued in Latin translation at Rome in 1754 for scholars and gem collectors. Numbered copperplates group grinning and scowling masks, bearded and braided heads, statuettes of actors, and coins and cameos on bare paper, each captioned with its material, giving designers isolated grotesque faces and profile heads ready to cut out.
