A Latin edition of Andrea Alciato's emblem book with commentary by Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas, printed at Lyon by Guillaume Rouillé in 1573 for humanist scholars and students of moral allegory. Its 202 small square woodcuts pair mottoes with compact scenes—armored men at gateways, birds of prey over dens, enthroned figures served by dwarfs, statues and altars in open country—drawn in dense parallel hatching that supplies ready-made emblem vignettes, animal motifs and stylized landscape backgrounds.
