French etchers of the second empire
A critical survey of the etching revival in France under Napoleon III, written by William Aspenwall Bradley and published by Houghton Mifflin in Boston and New York in 1916 for print collectors and students of graphic art. The plates reproduce etchings and lithographs of riverbanks, wooded roads, village rooftops and distant harbours, ranging from open outline work with bare white skies to dense drypoint tangles of foliage, with plate signatures and dates left visible.
