The fur country; or, Seventy degrees north latitude;
An English translation of Jules Verne's Arctic adventure novel, issued by James R. Osgood of Boston in 1874 for general readers of illustrated fiction. The wood engravings, after French draughtsmen, set small dark figures against wide skies and ice: a fur-clad hunter hauling a seal from a hole, surveyors sighting across a flat shore, men prying apart a timber fort, a camp of hunters and dogs under conifers, with heavy cross-hatched cloud and water useful as tonal backdrops.
