Future development of Japanese dwelling houses
An architectural thesis by Shigetsura Shiga, submitted at the University of Illinois in 1905, proposing how Japanese dwelling houses might be adapted to new construction and living patterns, addressed to architecture faculty and students. Plates mounted on ruled notebook pages combine inked elevations, sections, and floor plans of timber houses with gates, bracketed eaves, sliding screen doors, and lattice, plus faded photographic prints of interiors; useful for line-drawn joinery details, hand-lettered plate captions, and plan diagrams.
