The game of draughts
A checkers manual by James Hill, printed in 1890 at Woonsocket, Rhode Island, for players studying draughts problems and endgame positions. The illustrations are letterpress board diagrams: square grids with diagonally hatched dark squares, small solid discs for black pieces and ringed discs for white, headed BLACK and WHITE in spaced capitals, useful as grid patterns, game-token marks, and hatching textures.
