Garden-craft old and new
An 1895 London treatise by the architect John Dando Sedding, edited after his death by Edward Russell, arguing for the formal English garden against naturalistic landscaping, addressed to architects and garden owners. The plates are pen-and-ink ground plans drawn to scale, with parterres, knot beds, clipped scrollwork, hatched lawns and shrubbery, small hand-lettered labels and bar scales — usable as ornamental grid patterns, borders and cartographic line texture.
