The Gardeners' chronicle : a weekly illustrated journal of horticulture and allied subjects
A weekly British horticultural trade journal published in London from 1841 for nurserymen, estate gardeners and plant collectors, with the 1874 volume gathering reports on ornamental plants, fruit and vegetable culture. The engravings are fine pen-and-ink botanical studies, here a whole potato plant with clustered tubers, fibrous roots and cut leaves rendered in dense hatching against blank paper, useful for line-art plant forms, root and tuber shapes, and engraver's monograms.
