Gardens, old and new; the country house & its garden environment
A survey of English country-house gardens edited by John Leyland and H. Avray Tipping, issued by Country Life in London and Scribner's in New York around 1900 for landowners, architects and garden designers. Halftone photographs record clipped yew hedges, balustraded terraces, stone urns, lily canals, gravel walks and manor façades seen through trees, useful as period reference for formal garden structure and texture.
