Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review published in Paris from 1859 for collectors, critics and connoisseurs, illustrated with engraved reproductions of paintings, sculpture and ornament alongside its criticism. The plates run from loose pen-drawn allegories — winged women with torches, draped figures in motion, copies of classical horse-and-rider friezes — to tightly symmetrical vignettes of winged sirens flanking a masked cartouche, useful as headpieces, tailpieces and line-art figure studies.
