Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art periodical begun in Paris in 1859, written for collectors, curators and artists and illustrated by engravers copying paintings, sculpture and antiquities. Its plates mix line-engraved heads and drapery studies, outline drawings of goldsmiths' marks and monograms, and shaded views of statues and reliquary figures, useful for hatching textures, decorative ciphers and classical figure silhouettes.
