Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art periodical begun in Paris in 1859, written for collectors, critics and artists and illustrated with reproductive engravings after paintings, drawings and monuments. The plates run from wide topographical views of cities and harbours to crowded historical interiors of figures in period dress, plus small octagonal vignettes of blasted trees, putti and distant castles; useful for reproductive engraving texture, framed vignette shapes and costumed crowd groupings.
