Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts, the Paris art periodical founded in 1859, wrote for collectors, critics and archaeologists, and illustrated its articles with wood engravings after antiquities and works in European collections. The plates here record Greek and Roman sculpture: standing Athena figures in pleated drapery, a votive relief with a winged Nike crowning a worshipper, a shield carved with a crowded battle, drawn in fine outline with ruled hatching behind.
