Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art-history and collecting periodical begun in Paris in 1859, written for connoisseurs, curators and dealers and illustrated by engravers after works in churches, museums and private cabinets. The plates here record medieval stained glass and sculpture: lancet windows divided into tiered figure panels, crowned saints with halos and staffs, tiled floors in diamond patterns, and captioned narrative scenes in Gothic frames.
