Gazette des beaux-arts
The Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review founded in Paris in 1859, written by critics and curators for collectors, dealers and connoisseurs following salons, museum acquisitions and the antiquities trade. Its plates are tonal wood engravings, etchings and lithographic facsimiles reproducing paintings, antique statuary and illuminated manuscript pages, supplying draped figure groups, a strapwork memorial border with skulls and cherubs, and outline drawings of carved stone.
