Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 143 pictures

Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art periodical begun in Paris in 1859, written by critics and connoisseurs for collectors, dealers, and artists. Its plates reproduce old master drawings, early woodcuts, antique marbles, and ornament in etched and engraved line: Dürer's foliate initials, Renaissance cartouche headpieces with putti and urns, outline figures of saints, and hatched studies of broken statuary.
