Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts, the Paris art review founded in 1859 and issued for collectors, dealers and connoisseurs, reproduced old master prints and current museum holdings in line engraving. The plates copy Renaissance and Northern woodcuts and etchings: emblematic cartouche frames with putti and strapwork, biblical and mythological scenes, riders and armoured figures, all in dense linear hatching suited to line reuse.
