Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review published in Paris from 1859 for collectors, critics and artists, carrying essays on painting, sculpture and the decorative arts alongside engraved reproductions. The plates mix line-engraved copies of old master compositions and crowded interior scenes with close studies of carved ornament — acanthus scrollwork, mascarons, flaming-urn candelabra — giving designers ready hatched ornament motifs, frame panels and figure groups.
