Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review published in Paris from 1859, written for critics, collectors and dealers and illustrated with prints made after works in exhibitions and private collections. The plates run from loose etched sketches of crowds and interiors to clean outline transcriptions of Renaissance altarpieces and tonal engravings of genre paintings, giving designers reproducible line versions of old-master compositions plus figure groups drawn with visible hatching.
