Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 257 pictures

The Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review founded in Paris in 1859, written for collectors, critics and connoisseurs and illustrated with engraved and etched reproductions of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture in public and private hands. The plates run to pen-line portrait heads, copies after Renaissance and Dutch masters, profile views of Egyptian and antique carving, and dense crosshatched landscapes with figures — useful for hatching textures, character faces and object studies against blank grounds.
