Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 204 pictures

Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review founded in Paris in 1859, written by critics and curators for collectors, dealers and museum-goers. Its plates are engravings and etchings after paintings and decorative objects — enamelled and painted dishes with grotesque borders, carved ceiling bosses, medallions, a Nativity after an old master — many set in ruled frames with printed captions, giving designers circular ornament, figure roundels and fine hatched tone.
