Gazette des beaux-arts
The Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review published in Paris from 1859 for collectors, critics and artists, carrying essays on painting, sculpture and the antiquities trade with engraved plates and in-text cuts after the works discussed. The illustrations are outline and wood-engraved copies of monuments and objects: a skeleton tomb figure with kneeling mourners, a draped caryatid on a plinth, a hatched medieval portrait head, an angel in densely patterned brocade — usable as clean line stock for figures, drapery pattern and architectural ornament.
