Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 213 pictures

Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art review published in Paris from 1859 for collectors, connoisseurs and art historians, mixing scholarly articles with reproductive plates after paintings, drawings and prints in public and private collections. The plates here reproduce old master pen drawings and etchings: loosely hatched crowd scenes, a columned hall in one-point perspective, robed figures in a ruled circular medallion, and close details of relief-like sculptural groups, useful as line-art figure studies and architectural staging.
