Gazette des beaux-arts

1859 · [Paris, s.n.] · 212 pictures

Gazette des beaux-arts was a Paris art periodical begun in 1859, written by critics, curators and archaeologists for collectors, dealers and connoisseurs, and illustrated with engraved and etched plates after works in museums and private cabinets. The plates here record Renaissance wall tombs, carved relief panels, acanthus scroll friezes and metalwork details in clean outline and fine hatching, giving designers ready-made architectural frames, cartouches, ornament borders and figure reliefs.
