Gazette des beaux-arts
Gazette des beaux-arts was a French art periodical begun in Paris in 1859, written for collectors, critics and connoisseurs and illustrated with reproductions after prints and old books. The sampled pages are line-block copies of Renaissance woodcut initials: capitals filled with foliate scrolls, grotesque masks, dragons and nude figures, usable as drop caps, ornament fragments or border motifs.
