Gems, selected from the antique, with illustrations
Richard Dagley's 1804 London volume of engravings after antique carved gems, printed by Charles Whittingham for John Murray and aimed at collectors and students of classical antiquity. Plates set oval cameo subjects—reclining nudes, profile heads, Cupid, Apollo's lyre, thunderbolts—in soft grey stipple, floated on clouds or bound with laurel and labelled in engraved script; sources for medallion frames, mythological vignettes and copperplate captions.
