Inside Out Library

A genealogical and heraldic history of the commoners of Great Britain and Ireland, enjoying territorial possessions or high official rank; but univested with heritable honours

Burke, John, 1787-1848 · 1838 · London, H. Colburn; [etc., etc.] · 184 pictures

A four-volume genealogical reference by John Burke, published in London by Henry Colburn in 1838, recording the pedigrees of British and Irish landed families who held estates or office without hereditary titles. The 185 illustrations are small line-cut armorial woodcuts: quartered shields with lions, garbs, crosses and birds, set under coronets and crests of eagles, griffins, wyverns and beasts, offering clean black-and-white heraldic charges and crest motifs at text size.
