The genealogist
A volume of The Genealogist, the London genealogical and heraldic journal edited by George W. Marshall and issued by Golding and Lawrence with George Bell & Sons in 1877 for antiquaries, record searchers and family historians. The plates are letterpress pedigree charts rather than drawings: bracketed descent lines, equals signs linking spouses, small-capital surnames and dense runs of baptism, marriage and burial dates, useful as ready-made diagram structures, typographic texture, or backgrounds of fine ruled lines.
