A reference dictionary of painters compiled by Matthew Pilkington and printed by Thomas Cadell in London in 1770, addressed to gentlemen collectors and connoisseurs of the art trade. The plates are printer's ornaments and a later owner's armorial bookplate: acanthus scrollwork tailpieces with flower baskets, paired birds, and emblems of learning, plus marbled paper — useful as small vignettes, dividers, and border stock.
